The waiting game

Another two months have passed, and they find me still in the same situation I was in March.

And while the sheer boredom of being unemployed is bad, and the sending out of countless resumes moreso, the absolute worst part of the whole job-search process is the waiting.

Waiting.

More waiting.

There are certain points to the interview process where everything starts ramping up; each follwoup interview is scheduled closer and closer to each other. You meet with the higher ups and the human resources folks. You talk benefits and salaries and packages. Everything begins moving so quickly and then....

You're told you will hear something soon. Perhaps your recruiter reassures you that, based on his conversations with the company, a decision should be forthcoming. And so you wait.

Meanwhile, life at said companies goes on -- people have babies, companies get bought, departments are reorganized. And so final decisions are put on hiatus for a day or a week or a month.

But you, the candidate? You wait. The companies haven't hired someone else in your place, you did not lose out to the competition. You did not fail to impress the hiring manager or the VP or whomever. It's just a matter of circumstances causing you to wait in the middle zone.

And that's where I am now. Waiting.

Meanwhile, my blood pressure pills are about to run out and without insurance the prescription is going to kill me. When more do I need the blood pressure pills than in this frustrating period?
